It’s Earth Day, and I am newly touched today by the endless generosity of this magnificent planet. Even as she works to metabolize the increasing toxicity of human impact, she offers life and beauty to us every day.
Today, I celebrate the earth with heartfelt prayer. I ask forgiveness for all the ways I contribute to imbalance in the world, and I give thanks for the abundant blessings we receive every day.
I ask for guidance to walk more lovingly in harmony with the earth.
I dream a world of humanity embracing loving stewardship and passionate appreciation for the miracle of this blue-green marble hurtling through space.
I am reminded of this poem by e. e. cummings I once memorized:
i thank You God for most this amazing day:
for the leaping greenly spirits of trees
and a blue true dream of sky;
and for everything which is natural
which is infinite
which is yes
(i who have died am alive again today,
and this is the sun’s birthday;
this is the birth day of life and of love and wings:
and of the gay great happening illimitably earth)
how should tasting touching hearing seeing
breathing any—lifted from the no
of all nothing—human merely being
doubt unimaginable You?
(now the ears of my ears awake and
now the eyes of my eyes are opened)

It’s an incredible shift of relationship to the planet, and to the energy of the Mother, to step into stewardship. And with it, comes a deeper intimacy, which is precious!
